The Multi-Faceted Fiction Writer: Who Is Writing Your Stories?
Who is writing your stories? How intimately do you know that part of you?
Do you trust yourself to write in total freedom or are you afraid of exposing yourself? To whom? Mother? Father? Child? God? Self?
Have you met any new parts of yourself on your writing journey? Do you delight in these parts? Take them on a walk? Out for coffee, tea, wine or a beer? You might be surprised...
Sound nutty?
Ask yourself how far you will go in letting your imagination guide you.
The imagination is like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets!
"We are all guilty of crime the great crime of not living life to the full. But we are all potentially free. We can stop thinking of what we have failed to do and do whatever lies within our power. What those powers that are in us may be no one has truly dared to imagine. That they are infinite we will realize the day we admit to ourselves that imagination is everything. Imagination is the voice of daring." Henry Miller
I think this a very interesting subject. I have found myself many times holding back what I really wanted to write. Writing can be so personal and it is a little bit scary to allow your true self to shine through. How do you overcome the fear of wondering into the deepest darkest parts of your imagination?
ReplyDeleteHi Christelle,
ReplyDeleteYou get over your fears by not letting them stop you. You write what you are afraid to write. The fears make where you want to go seem dark but the dark isn't wrong or bad... it holds what you cannot yet see. If you could see it, it wouldn't be dark. The dark holds the mystery and the jewel of your writing.
My book The Art of Fiction Writing shows you how to challenge and defang your inner critic.

There is also a teleseminar on my website about defanging the inner critic. These would definitely help you on your journey.

The telesemimars are a great deal, only $10 and I think they would help you a lot.
keep writing and going where the writer's passion takes you!

I am now trying to write my first fiction novel as a weekly blog.

THe idea is to let the readers have a say in future plot developments.

If you unleash your creativity and follow no rules you can create a unique masterpiece...now how to do that isn't always easy. Great topic.
ReplyDeleteI've found the rejection to be difficult. Sending in stories only to be told that they're "not what we're looking for right now" really destroys your soul. My husband somehow convinced me to start publishing some stories online. If nothing else it feels good just to get my writing out in the light.
ReplyDeleteDifferent parts of my personality write different aspects of my novels, especially when writing characters.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this it's very inspiring. I have recently been writing a fantasy novel and are 3/4 through my first draft. I have yet shown my work to anyone, in fear that it may be terrible. I am hoping I will get over this by the time it is at the finished product.

What a fascinating question: "Who is writing your stories."
ReplyDeleteI agree with the idea of imagination as a muscle that needs exercise and can be trained.
